There are two types of Southern California wedding coordinator. There is the professional coordinator and then there is the person the room you rent for your reception assigns to you.

The professional coordinator or wedding event planner stays the duration of the wedding and directs the wedding through all the stages of ceremony. They keep everyone informed so you, the wedding couple, can just follow along and don’t need to worry about a thing. From a band point of view, we love these people. It takes the pressure off us and we can concentrate on getting the energy into the event.

The so-called wedding coordination person, who gets assigned to you by the hotel, or reception facility, is usually completely unorganized and ineffective. They don’t care about you. They care about the reception hall and they don’t coordinate much of anything. Actually in most cases they go home shortly after the bridal party entrances. You might even be lucky they stay that long. Be forewarned that these people will not help your event go smoothly except in rare occasions. These posers will not be there for you when you need them.

So you need to be aware of what you want out of your wedding. If it’s a big event, and you want to make sure everything goes smoothly, pay the money and hire a professional wedding planner or coordination person. If you aren’t that concerned about it, go with the assigned person.
